Ishi Dojo is a 501C3 not-for-profit organization located in Providence, RI, that provides tools to at-risk youth to increase the quality of their lives. Ishi Dojo is a safe, motivating environment that gives, hope, strength and direction. We offer programs to children that build character, self-confidence, discipline, focus, patience, self-control and respect.
Ishi Dojo can be an integral part of changing lives for the better. The Ishi Dojo Youth Program offers a place for kids 6-18 to learn the importance of a lifestyle that combines physical fitness with proper nutrition to create personal self-esteem for young people.
History
Ishi Dojo was founded in 2004 to offer insight and education in fitness, nutrition, arts and self-awareness to youth. Established by David L. Piccoli, II, CEO and President of Smart Management, Inc. and Brian McDonough, martial arts champion and personal trainer, Ishi Dojo provides the tools for at-risk youth to improve their quality of life. Since its inception, Ishi Dojo has grown steadily in numbers of children served and the programs in which they can participate.
- In the early part of 2008, Ishi Dojo partnered with the Providence After School Alliance (PASA) to provide after-school programs to children in the Providence School System. This relationship continues to grow, and in early 2009 PASA increased its contribution to the Ishi Dojo program.
- In 2007, Ishi Dojo began a 6-week Summer Program, which has attracted a growing number of children to participate.
- In 2006 Ishi Dojo partnered with the Kids First nutrition program to provide sessions on healthy eating habits
- In 2008 a program was started for parents to help them buy and prepare nutritious and inexpensive meals for their families.
